Job title: Associate Director for Clinical Innovation (ADC)

Tagline: Minneapolis VA Health Care System is Seeking full-time physician to serve as Associate Director for Clinical Innovation (ADC) for the Minneapolis VA Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC).

Job Details: The ADC’s specific responsibilities include maintaining an externally funded, geriatric-focused research program targeted to improve the health and welfare of older Veterans; leading the Minneapolis GRECC clinical innovation/quality improvement program, involving development, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of innovative models of geriatric care; and overseeing Minneapolis VA GRECC clinical services (currently a weekly teaching Memory Clinic staffed by two neurologists and three internists); and contributing to GRECC geriatric education activities for multi-disciplinary VA clinical staff and trainees. The ADC will be expected to provide strategic leadership within the Minneapolis VA GRECC as part of administrative responsibilities and to spend 10-20% time providing clinical care to older Veterans. Beyond these activities, the ADC will have substantial protected time for geriatric-focused research, geriatric clinical demonstration/quality improvement work and geriatric education.

The ADC will be expected to be a bridge-builder, collaborating with other VA leaders, the recently established University of Minnesota (UMN) Division of Geriatrics, Palliative and Primary Care, and with other UMN leaders to advance geriatric research, education and clinical care. Important potential strategic partners may include, but are not limited to:

  • Minneapolis VA: Departments of Neurology, Geropsychiatry, Internal Medicine, Nursing, Social Work and Geriatric Pharmacy; Minneapolis VA Adaptive Design and Engineering (MADE) Program; Center for Care Delivery and Outcomes Research (CCDOR);
  • Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 23: Including VISN 23 leadership and other VISN 23 facilities outside Minneapolis;
  • UMN: Department of Neurology (including N. Bud Grossman Center for Memory Research and Care), Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism (iBAM), Center for Healthy Aging and Innovation (CHAI), Consortium on Aging, School of Nursing, School of Social Work;
  • The Minnesota Northstar Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP)

The best qualified candidate should have a history of geriatric-related academic research funding, leadership in clinical innovation or quality improvement initiatives, and a strong track record of collaboration. Leadership experience in geriatric education is highly valued. The ADC must be Board Certified and should be qualified for an academic appointment at the UMN.
