MINNESOTA ASSOCIATION OF GERIATRICS INSPIRED CLINICIANS (MAGIC)---ORGANIZATIONAL IDENTITY

The Minnesota Association of Geriatric Inspired Clinicians (MAGIC) is a statewide, interdisciplinary organization dedicated to advancing exceptional care for older adults by supporting the clinicians who serve them.

MAGIC is proud to be the Minnesota Chapter of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) and PALTmed (Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine), linking Minnesota clinicians to national leadership, evidence-based guidance, and advocacy while maintaining a strong local focus.

MAGIC IS PLEASED TO SHARE SOME OF ITS ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Worked with MDH to clarify provider visit licensure requirements
  • Created Influenza Protocol and shared with our clinicians and provider partners.
  • Created clinical considerations on the topic of Cannabis.
  • Created a Video with recommended steps for facility nurses when starting a POLST with patients.
  • Created a video highlighting the benefits of a receiving the COVID vaccine.
  • Updated the annual Standing orders for SNF’s and shared with our clinicians and provider partners.
  • Created an order set for Assisted Living Facilities and shared with our clinicians and provider partners.
  • Held a successful annual conference "To Pill or Not to Pill: Medication in Geriatrics," held on November 7–8, brought together clinicians to discuss critical topics such as deprescribing, antipsychotic use, and managing anxiety and delirium in older adults; conference moved to a new venue in 2024 to accommodate increasing numbers of sponsors and attendees.  
  • 2025 Annual Conference will be held November 6 and 7, 2025.
  • Member of the MAGIC Board serves as Vice President on the Minnesota Leadership Council on Aging Board of Directors.
  • MAGIC partners with the Minnesota Geriatric ECHO.
  • In partnership with the University of Minnesota, we provided funding and participated in a survey to gain insights into the roles and needs of nursing home Medical Directors.
  • Continue to meet with MDH about Issues that arise in MN that impact the populations we serve and our profession.
  • Each year at our annual meeting we welcome new board members.
