Reports to Board of Directors
Summary: The Minnesota Association of Geriatrics Inspired Clinicians (MAGIC) is a membership association whose purpose is to support its members as they advocate for, and serve those, with complex medical needs. Its predecessor organization, the Minnesota Medical Directors Association, was founded in 1978. MAGIC was created in 2017 as an organization with broader membership and in response to the changing paradigm of care for older, and medically complex, persons.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our association, ensuring that we operate effectively to meet strategic, operational, and growth goals. This role will be a key spokesperson and a face of our association, working closely with the representatives of other organizations that advocate for our older adult population.
Responsibilities/Duties
Strategic planning
Initiates and manages annual strategic planning in collaboration with the Board
Provides overall direction for implementation of plans to ensure the organization achieves its mission
Fosters strategic partnerships with organizations and leaders
2. Sustainability plan development
Cultivates relationships with funding partners to support the mission of the association
Directs financial development planning and implementation, researches funding sources, establishes strategies to approach funders, submits proposals and maintains records/documentation
Proactively identifies opportunities and challenges in the internal and external environment to advance the overall association priorities and strengths
3. Board Administration and Support – Supports operations and administration of Board and committee activities
Coordinates and schedules Board and subcommittee meetings and, with the Board President, sets agendas
Communicates regularly with Board members between meetings as needed
Directs and manages the organization’s annual conference
Supports and promotes committees to the local, state, and national senior health communities
4. Communications and Public Relations
Promotes the mission of MAGIC to the community through direct involvement, and as a spokesperson and ambassador of the association; develops marketing and media materials and serves on appropriate community local/state committees
Manages website development and content
Partners with Newsletter editor to publish organization newsletter, six times per year
Maintains communication and relationships with parent organizations AMDA-PALTC and AGS
5. Operations
Leads administrative responsibility for development, implementation and evaluation of contracts, financial documents and agreements, as directed by the Board
Oversees and manages the work of any outside contractors; oversees and manages any volunteers, students or interns as applicable for the organization
6. Financial Management
Along with the Board, plans and implements an annual budget and longer-term financial goals
Manages day to day financial operations including processing of financial transactions, reporting, ensures completion and filing of necessary forms to maintain the association’s financial health
Provides financial reports at all Board meetings and as requested by the Board
Develops, implements, and evaluates all contracts, financial documents and binding agreements at the direction of the Board
Identifies resource requirements, researches funding sources, establishes strategies to approach funders, submits proposals, facilitates and prepares volunteers to solicit donors and administers fundraising records and documentation
7. Membership Services/Growth
Manages annual membership dues process
Assists Membership committee with membership recruitment through community and public relations
Qualifications and Skills
Experience in, and knowledge of the older adult population and geriatric care delivery. The ideal candidate will have both knowledge and experience with older adult services on a local, state, and national level.
Preferred education: secondary or advanced degree in relevant field
Previous experience in a leadership role; preference for candidates with previous experience working with a Board of Directors
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans
Demonstrated ability to both oversee and directly complete day to day operational needs of the organization
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability with influencing others
Position This position is a contracted position anticipated to start in June 2021 or at a negotiated start date. This role is flexible with predominantly remote work, however in person activities are also an anticipated part of the role. This is a half-time (0.5FTE) exempt position at approximately 20-25 hours per week. Salary is negotiable commensurate with qualifications and experience.
